Edward Dowse

Edward Dowse (born October 22, 1756 in Charlestown , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  September 3, 1828 in Dedham , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . In 1819 and 1820 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Nothing is known of Edward Dowse's youth and schooling. He moved to Dedham and did maritime trade with China and India after the American Revolution . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1818 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th  constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Nathaniel Ruggles on March 4, 1819 . He held this mandate until his resignation on May 26, 1820. The reason for Dowse's resignation and his further activities after his departure from Congress is also unknown. He died on September 3, 1828 in Dedham, where he was also buried.
