Peter Francis Tague
Peter Francis Tague (born June 4, 1871 in Boston , Massachusetts , † September 17, 1941 there ) was an American politician . Between 1915 and 1925 he represented the state of Massachusetts twice in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Peter Tague attended the public schools in his home country. After that he worked, among other things, in the trade in forging supplies. He later made chemicals. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He served on the Boston City Council in 1894 and 1896. Between 1897 and 1898 and again from 1913 to 1914 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Massachusetts . In 1899 and 1900 he was a member of the State Senate .
In the 1914 congressional election , Tague was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded William Francis Murray on March 4, 1915 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1919 . During this time the First World War fell . In 1918 he lost in the primary against John F. Fitzgerald , but still stood as a write-in candidate in the election and was only barely defeated. Tague appealed against the election result. When this was granted, he was able to take his previous seat in Congress on October 23, 1919. After two re-elections, he could remain in the House of Representatives until March 3, 1925. In 1920, with the 19th amendment to the constitution, women's suffrage was introduced nationwide. In 1924 Peter Tague was not re-elected.
After his time in the US House of Representatives, he started making chemicals again. In 1930 he was chairman of the Boston Electoral Commission. From 1936 he headed the local postal authority. He died in Boston on September 17, 1941.
