William Reed (politician)

William Reed (born June 6, 1776 in Marblehead , Essex County , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  February 18, 1837 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1811 and 1815 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Reed received only a limited education and then worked in commerce. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Federalist Party . In the congressional elections of 1810 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Massachusetts , where he succeeded Benjamin Pickman on March 4, 1811 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1815 . These were shaped by the events of the British-American War of 1812 .

Later was William Reed board member of the Andover Theological Seminary and curator of Dartmouth College in Hanover ( New Hampshire ). Otherwise he worked in the trade again. He died on February 18, 1837 in his hometown of Marblehead.
