Rose Kennedy (born July 22, 1890 in Boston , Massachusetts as Rose Elizabeth Fitzgerald , † January 22, 1995 in Hyannis , Massachusetts) was a member of the American Kennedy dynasty . She was the mother of the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy , former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, and US Senator Edward Kennedy .

Life

Rose Elizabeth Fitzgerald was the eldest child of the politician and Boston Mayor John F. Fitzgerald (called "Honey Fitz") and his wife Mary Josephine Hannon (1865–1964). She married Joseph P. Kennedy on October 7, 1914 , with whom she had nine children:

In 1950 she was founded by Pope Pius XII. appointed "papal countess". At that time, women were not yet allowed to be awarded a papal order.

After Rose Kennedy lost four of her children while she was still alive, four of her grandchildren died before their grandmother.

At Easter 1984, Rose Kennedy suffered a severe stroke at the age of 93 , from which she did not recover until the end of her life. On January 22, 1995, she died at the family home in Hyannis Port at the age of 104 of pneumonia .
