Faustino Cardoso Gomes is an East Timorese civil servant and university professor.

Career

From 1991 to 1992 Gomes was deputy dean for student affairs at the Universitas Timor Timur (UNTIM), today's Universidade Nasionál Timór Lorosa'e (UNTL). From 1993 to 1996 he studied at the Gadjah Mada University . Gomes holds a PhD in public administration from the university. He was also an advisor to the student movement AETIL .

From 2003 to 2005 Gomes was national advisor to the East Timorese government in the field of decentralization and from 2004 to 2006 member of the Comissão Nacional de Eleições (CNE) for the 2004-2005 local elections in the Sucos . In addition, Gomes was a member of the State Council from 2005 to 2007 .

From August 2003 to December 2010, Gomes was director of the National Research Center ( Portuguese Centro nacional de investigação ). Here he coordinated research activities at the university, national and international level. In January 2007, Gomes also became President of the CNE. On May 1, 2013, Gomes was replaced by José Agustinho Belo as President of the CNE. But Gomes remained Commissioner of the CNE. In addition, since January 2003 he has been a lecturer at the UNTL for public administration, public order, introduction to political science, human resources management and decentralization in East Timor.

On May 29, 2015, Gomes was appointed commissioner and president of the Comissão da Função Pública CFP ( German  Commission of the Public Service ) by the government, replacing Libório Pereira .

On April 30, 2020, Gomes was proposed by the East Timorese government as the new Minister for State Administration (MAE). Instead, however, his term of office as President of the CFP was extended to 2025 on May 28, 2020.

Honors

On May 19, 2012 Gomes was awarded the Insígnia des Ordem de Timor-Leste .
