Minka Nijhuis

Minka Nijhuis (* 1958 in Rijssen , Netherlands ) is a Dutch war reporter and author. As a freelancer, she works for Trouw , Vrij Nederland and various radio stations.

Among other things, Nijhuis studied psychology and communication science at the University of Amsterdam . After completing her studies, she traveled to Cambodia in 1989 to witness the withdrawal of the Vietnamese army. It was only on this trip that she decided to become a reporter.

On August 30, 2019, Francisco Guterres , the president of the now independent East Timor, awarded Nijhuis with the medal of the Ordem de Timor-Leste . She has also received several awards for her journalistic work, for example the Prix ​​des Ambassadeurs . She reported from Afghanistan , Kosovo , Iraq , Myanmar , Cambodia , East Timor and Syria .
