Mahdi Sohrabi ( Arabic سهرابی مهدی; * October 12, 1981 ) is a former Iranian cyclist .

Athletic career

Sohrabi began his career in 2005 with the Paykan cycling team . In his first season he became Iranian time trial and road racing champions . In the overall ranking of the UCI Asia Tour 2005 , he finished seventh. A year later he made it back into the top ten and finished eighth. At the Asian Games 2006 in Doha Sohrabi finished second in the road race behind the winner Wong Kam Po . Then he won a second silver medal with his compatriots in the team pursuit and bronze with Amir Zargari in the Madison . At the beginning of 2007 Sohrabi won the week-long stage race Jelajah Malaysia . In 2008 Sohrabi won the overall victory at the Governor of Malacca Cup . In 2009 he won the overall standings at the Milad-e-Do-Nur-Tour and the Tour d'Indonesia .

In 2010 he became Asian road racing champion for the second time after 2006 and won the individual ranking of the UCI Asia Tour 2010 , which he also won in 2011 . In 2009 he also won the continental title in scratch on the track. In 2011 Sohrabi won the Jelajah Malaysia , the Kerman Tour and the Azerbaïjan Tour . In 2013 he won stages at the Le Tour de Filipinas , the Tour de Singkarak and the Tour of Borneo . In 2014 he won a stage at the Banyuwangi Tour de Ijen . In 2015 he won another stage in the Tour de Singkarak .

doping

In January 2020, Sohrabi, at that time captain of the Iranian national team, was suspended for four years for doping , retrospectively from July 2019. His title as Iranian road champion from 2019 was revoked.
