Sajjad Hashemi Ahangari ( Persian سجاد هاشمی آهنگری; * August 22, 1991 in Tabriz ) is an Iranian sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run .

Athletic career

Sajjad Hashemi gained his first experience in international championships at the 2007 Youth World Championships in Ostrava , where he reached the semi-finals over 400 meters and was eliminated there with 48.72 seconds. In 2008 he finished fifth at the Junior Asian Championships in Jakarta . Two years later he won the Junior Asian Championships in Hanoi in 47.18 s and also won the bronze medal with the Iranian 4 x 400 meter relay with 3: 16.90 min. He was also fourth over 200 meters. With the relay he then took part in the Asian Games in Guangzhou , but was disqualified in the run-up. In 2011 he was fourth over 400 meters at the Asian Championships in Kobe and won the bronze medal behind Japan and Saudi Arabia with the Iranian relay in 3: 08.58 minutes. In July he won the gold medal at the Military World Games in Rio de Janeiro and improved the Iranian record to 45.81 s.

2012 Hashemi qualified for the Olympic Games in London , where he was eliminated with 47.75 s in the first round . In 2014 he took part again with the relay in the Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea , but could not finish the run there. In 2015 he again took part in the Military World Games in Mungyeon , this time finishing sixth in 46.44 s. In addition, he was disqualified in the preliminary round with the 4 x 100 meter relay. In 2016 he won the silver medal behind Qatar with the relay at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha . Two years later he won another medal at the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran , this time bronze, with a new national record of 3: 11.74 minutes,

In 2011, Hashemi became the Iranian champion in the 200 and 400 meters.
