Ehsan Rouzbahani (born June 23, 1988 in Tehran ) is an Iranian boxer and Olympian from 2012 and 2016 .

Career

amateur

The approximately 1.84 m tall left-hand boom boxed so far only in the light heavyweight division (75 - 81 kg) and was Iranian champion in 2008, 2011 and 2012. His first international success was the silver medal at the Asian Junior Championships 2006 in India. After a semi-final victory against Dinesh Kumar , he moved into the final, where he was defeated by the Kazakhs Shan Kossobutski.

At the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou he defeated Ahmad al-Taimat from Jordan in the round of 16, but then retired in the quarter-finals against Elshod Rasulov from Uzbekistan with 1: 3 on points and thus reached 5th place. He won another 5th place at the World Championships 2011 in Baku . After victories against Artur Chachatrijan from Armenia, Igor Jakubowski from Poland and Joe Ward from Ireland, he lost again in the quarter-finals to Elshod Rasulov.

He had thus qualified for participation in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London ; after a preliminary round win against Jeison Monroy from Colombia (12:10) and a round of 16 win against Bahram Muzaffer from Turkey (18:12), he lost again in the quarter-finals against Ädilbek Nijasymbetow from Kazakhstan (10:13).

At the 2013 Asian Championships in Amman , he won another bronze medal. After victories against Rasul Juldaschew from Turkmenistan and Wesam Alalawi from Saudi Arabia, he was eliminated in the semifinals against Ädilbek Nijasymbetow with 1: 2.

At the Asian Games in Incheon in 2014 , he won a bronze medal after only being eliminated in the semifinals against Aedilbek Nijasymbetow (1: 2).

Further successes were a third place at the Turkish Ahmet Cömert tournament in 2008, second place at the Umakhanov tournament in Russia in 2011, first place at the Russian Governor Cup in 2012 and first place at the Kazakh Galim Sharilgapov tournament in 2013.

At the Olympic Games in 2016 he was eliminated in the first duel against Peter Müllenberg .

World Series of Boxing

In the 2012/13 season Rouzbahani started for the Astana Arlans in the World Series of Boxing . He played four fights in the regular season of which he won three. He was also used in the playoffs in the semifinals against the Mexico Guerreros and in the final against the Ukrainian Otamans. In the semifinals he won his fight, in the final he lost and his team could not win the championship either.

In the following season, Rouzbahani was used only once in the regular season. He won that fight.

AIBA Pro Boxing

Since October 2014, Rouzbahani has started in the newly founded professional area "APB" of the IOC recognized world association AIBA. In the first cycle Rouzbahani was able to win his three fights against Oybek Mamazulunov (Uzbekistan), Joe Ward (Ireland) and Mathieu Bauderlique (France) and stood on January 30, 2015 in the final of the "APB" in the light heavyweight division in Sofia against Joseph Kennedy St Pierre Mauritius . He won this fight with 78:73, 79:73 and 78:74 points. This qualified Rouzbahani for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
