Dinesh Kumar (* 25. August 1988 in Bhiwani , Haryana ) is a former Indian boxers in the light heavyweight division .
Career
Dinesh Kumar was discovered as a boxer by Jagdish Singh and brought to the Sport Authority of India Boxing Center (SAI) in Bhiwani, where he is also trained. One of his training partners there is Vijender Kumar (Mahimal Vijender Singh). He is also a member of the Bhiwani Boxing Club and has been a member of the Indian national team of boxers since 2006, where he is looked after by national coach GS Sandhu.
His greatest successes in youth were winning the silver medal at the 2004 Asian Cadet Championships in Vietnam and a bronze medal at the 2006 Asian Junior Championships in India.
At the Asian Championships in 2007 in Mongolia , he was eliminated in the round of 16, but reached the final of the Asian Olympic qualification in 2008 in Astana and thus qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing . There he was defeated in the first fight against Abdelhafid Benchabla .
At the World Cup in Moscow in 2008 he won a bronze medal and this time also beat Abdelhafid Benchabla before he was eliminated in the fight for the final against Artur Beterbijew . He won another bronze medal at the Asian Championships in China in 2009 when he lost to Elshod Rasulov in the semifinals . At the 2009 World Championships in Milan , he defeated Vladimír Řezníček and Constantin Bejenaru before losing to Artur Beterbijew in the quarterfinals.
In 2010 he won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Championships in India with a final win over Callum Johnson without a fight . At the Commonwealth Games 2010 in India, however, he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Obed Mbwakongo .
He achieved his greatest success by winning the silver medal at the 2010 Asian Games in China, after failing in the final against Elshod Rasulov. In the same year he was awarded the Arjuna Award for his sporting success . At the Asian Championships in 2011 in South Korea and 2013 in Jordan , he reached the quarter-finals. At the 2011 World Championships in Baku , he prevailed against Dipak Maharjan and Boško Drašković and lost to Damien Hooper in the round of 16 .
In May 2014 he was injured in a traffic accident near Patiala and could no longer participate in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland . He has not appeared internationally since this accident.
