Callum Johnson (* 20th August 1985 in Boston , Lincolnshire ) is a British professional boxer in light heavyweight . He is managed by Naseem Hamed , promoted by Matchroom Sport and coached by Joe Gallagher .
Amateur career
As an amateur, Johnson boxed under the Scottish flag in the light heavyweight division and was Scottish champion in 2007 and 2009, and in 2008 he was unable to compete in the final due to injury. In October 2010 he won the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India, by beating Krystian Borucki (8: 1), Obed Mbwakongo (6: 2), Jermaine Asare (TKO) and Tommy McCarthy (8: 1). Already at the Championships of the Commonwealth in March of the same year, he had moved into the finals, where he won silver without a fight against Dinesh Kumar .
Professional career
Callum Johnson made his professional debut on December 4, 2010 at Braehead Arena, Scotland . In the following years he won 15 fights, 11 of them prematurely, 8 of them within just two rounds. He then boxed on September 24, 2016 in the Manchester Arena against Willbeforce Shihepo for the vacant Commonwealth light heavyweight championship and won by knockout (knockout) in the ninth round after he had his opponent on the ground in the seventh round .
On March 24, 2018, he won the first round of a technical knockout (TKo) against Frank Buglioni at the O2 Arena in London , defending his Commonwealth title and also winning the British championship .
On October 6, 2018, he was already boxing for the IBF world light heavyweight title, but lost the fight in Chicago by knockout in the fourth round against Russian title holder Artur Beterbijew . He won his next fight prematurely against Sean Monaghan in March 2019.
