2012 Summer Olympics logo

The placements in the medal table for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London are sorted by the number of gold medals won, followed by the number of silver and bronze medals. If two or more countries have an identical medal balance, they are listed alphabetically on the same rank. This corresponds to the system used by the IOC .

85 of the 204 participating nations were able to win at least one medal in one of the 302 competitions, 55 of them even at least one gold medal. With Bahrain , Botswana , Gabon , Grenada , Guatemala , Montenegro and Cyprus , seven nations were able to win an Olympic medal for the first time.

In boxing , judo , taekwondo and wrestling , two bronze medals were awarded per weight class. Due to the equality of results, two silver medals but no bronze medals were awarded in the men's 200-meter freestyle and 100-meter butterfly swimming ; in the keirin cycling race of men two and in the high jump men's three bronze medals.

On October 11, 2016, the IOC announced that the gold medalist in the women's hammer throw, Tatjana Lysenko , had been convicted of doping with the banned substance Turinabol and dismissed the Russian woman's medal. In June 2016 it became public that the Kazakh girl Maija Manesa, who came in first place there, had taken doping substances. She was stripped of the gold medal. 18) Irina Kulescha , Belarus , weightlifting, October 27, 2016

26) Anatolii Cîrîcu , Republic of Moldova, weightlifting, November 21, 2016

As it became known in August 2016, the Kazakh Ilya Ilyin, who had already sneaked the gold medal with the help of doping agents at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , also competed with doping in 2012 and thus also came first. He was disqualified by the IOC and was stripped of the 2008 and 2012 gold medals.

The second-placed Russian Alexander Ivanov was also doped, as was the third-placed Moldovan Anatolii Cîrîcu, who was convicted due to a follow-up test carried out in September 2016 and is now a three-time repeat offender after 2007 and 2015.

It has also been clear since September 2016 that fourth-placed Russian Andrei Demanow , sixth-placed İntiqam Zairov (so far, however, there has been no official withdrawal from the IOC for Zairov, there is only one official withdrawal for the 2008 placement at Zairov) and seventh-placed Kazakh Almas Öteschow were doped. This means that the fifth-placed Iranian Saeid Mohammadpour , the eighth-placed Korean Kim Min-jae and the ninth-placed Pole Tomasz Zielinski have good chances of medal ranks. However, Zielinski himself tested positive for doping substances at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . As in the past, the international committees could decide in this case not to award new medals in order not to honor a doping offender afterwards.

The Ukrainian Artem Ivanov , who had already lifted 420 kilograms at the Ukrainian championships in 2012, eight kilograms above the world record at the time, had not taken part in the compulsory weighing of the athletes without giving a reason and was therefore disqualified.
