Medal table of the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games
The table shows the medal table of the 1st Youth Olympic Winter Games 2012 in Innsbruck , Austria . The placements are sorted according to the lexicographical order of the number of gold medals won, followed by the number of silver and bronze medals. If two or more countries have an identical medal balance, they are listed alphabetically on the same rank.
Germany emerged from the competitions as the most successful nation among 70 participating countries with eight gold, seven silver and two bronze medals, followed by China and host Austria . In total, athletes from 30 countries were able to win at least one medal. The dwarf states of Andorra and Monaco won their first Olympic medals, while Morocco became the first African nation to celebrate a medal at the Winter Olympic Games .
In addition to the 60 normal competitions, three disciplines were held with teams from different National Olympic Committees . The medals won there are listed in the medal table without rank as a mixed team .
With a total of 37 gold medals, China continues to lead the all-time medal table of the Youth Olympic Games ; Second place is Russia (23 gold medals) ahead of South Korea (17 gold medals); see also the medal table of the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games .
