Eternal medal table of the Olympic Winter Games

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Olympic rings

The all-time medal table of the Olympic Winter Games shows which country has won the most medals in absolute terms at all Olympic Winter Games . So far, a total of 3169 medals have been awarded in sports competitions at 23 winter games. 41 different teams were able to win medals. Awards at the art competitions , the mountaineering prize “ Prix olympique d'alpinisme ” and the aeronautical prize (“ Prix áeronautique ”) are not taken into account.

The placements are sorted by the number of gold medals won, followed by the number of silver and bronze medals. If two or more countries have the same medal balance, they are listed alphabetically according to the IOC abbreviation on the same rank. This corresponds to the system used by the IOC for the medal table for individual Olympic Games. In contrast, the IOC does not add up an “eternal” medal table.

The medal table takes into account the results up to the Olympic Winter Games 2018 and the changes regarding various withdrawals (until February 2020).

Best placements in countries without medals

The following table should be understood less as a ranking, but more as a listing of the highest ranking a nation has ever achieved at the Winter Olympics. Comparability is only possible to a limited extent, since, for example, Nigeria placed 20th in the women's two-man bobsleigh and, on the other hand, Ethiopian Robel Teklemariam left 16 other athletes behind in his 83rd place in cross-country skiing.
