Julianne "Anne" Abernathy [ ˈæbɚnæθɪ ] (born April 12, 1953 in Saint Thomas , US Virgin Islands ) is a luge from the US Virgin Islands . She is the oldest female athlete to have ever competed in the Winter Olympics and for this she was inscribed in the Guinness Book of Records . Therefore it bears the name Grandma Luge (German grandmother racing sled ).

Anne Abernathy began tobogganing at the age of 29. In 1988 she first took part in the Winter Olympics in Calgary . The 2006 Winter Games in Turin were the sixth Olympic Games at which Abernathy was registered. She was the only representative of her country. She broke her wrist in a fall while exercising on February 12. She could not contest the competition on February 13th.
