Jamil El Reedy

Jamil Omar Hatem Abdulalem Jamil El Reedy (born October 22, 1965 in Cairo ) is a former Egyptian ski racer.

El Reedy took part in 1984 as a single starter in Egypt's only participation in the Winter Olympics. The skier, who was 18 when he started, lived in the small US town of Plattsburgh (New York) when he started . In preparation for his participation in the Olympics, he said he spent 40 days in a cave in the western Egyptian desert to practice a traditional rite of initiation that his father, who was also his trainer, had insisted on.

At the Olympic competitions in Sarajevo , he competed in all three alpine competitions. In the downhill he finished last, more than a minute behind the penultimate, in the giant slalom he was eliminated in the first run, in the slalom he was at least able to leave the Cypriot Giannos Pipis behind.

After his sporting adventure, El Reedy turned to studying physics. He graduated from the University of Cairo the bachelor's degree and at Clarkson University the Master of Science -degree and the degree of Ph.D. He then specialized in the development of components for optical networks. He is the author or co-author of nine patents.
