Clifton Wrottesley

Clifton Hugh Lancelot de Verdon Wrottesley, 6th Baron Wrottesley (born August 10, 1968 in Dublin ) is a British peer and a former Irish skeleton driver .

He is the only son of the Hon. Richard Francis Gerard Wrottesley and Georgina Anne Clifton. Since his father died in 1970, he inherited his title of nobility, including the hereditary seat in the House of Lords, when his grandfather Richard Wrottesley, 5th Baron Wrottesley died in 1977 . He attended Eton College and studied at the University of Edinburgh and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and served in the Grenadier Guards until 1995 , most recently with the rank of Captain .

Lord Wrottesley was trained by Adam Pengilly and lives in the United Kingdom . He got into skeleton late and made his international debut at the age of 32 in an America's Cup race in November 2000 in Calgary , where he finished 12th. After he reached several placements in the top ten in this racing series and was second in a Challenge Cup race in Calgary, he was able to take part in the 2001 Skeleton World Championship in Calgary. There he finished 24th. He then made his debut as 25th in Park City in the Skeleton World Cup .

In the following season 2001/2002 Wrottesley, who competed for the Irish Bobsleigh Association , started consistently in the World Cup. The best result was a 13th place in Calgary, he finished 18th in the overall standings. The highlight of the season was the 2002 Winter Olympics , when skeleton was on the calendar for the first time since 1948. In Salt Lake City , Wrottesley achieved the best result of his career. Behind Jim Shea , Martin Rettl and Gregor Stähli , he finished fourth, 42 hundredths of a second behind a medal. After the first run he was still on the bronze rank. He then ended, apart from a brief comeback in the 2005/06 season in the European Skeleton Cup and the Challenge Cup, his active career.

Through the House of Lords Act 1999 he lost his hereditary seat in parliament.

Marriage and offspring

In 2001 he married the Swiss Sascha Schwarzenbach. He has four children with her:
