ABP Induction Systems GmbH is a German industrial company and one of the leading manufacturers of inductively operated systems for the metal industry with a global field of activity. ABP has its headquarters in Dortmund and is entered in the commercial register there. ABP Induction was separated from Asea Brown Boveri in November 2005 and has been an independent industrial company since then, which has a hundred-year history.

In the case of induction furnaces , the energy required for melting or heating is induced directly into the workpiece via coils, so that heating is achieved that is much more efficient, faster and more precisely metered, with more convenient handling.

history

ASEA

In 1903 the company built its first induction furnace for the foundry - at that time under the name Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA), based in Sweden.

Merger with BBC to form ABB

In 1988 ASEA and the Swiss company Brown, Boveri & Cie. (BBC) to Asea Brown Boveri (ABB). This strategic merger led ABB to the world's number three in electrical engineering and was considered a milestone in economic history at that time, since now, in addition to complex control, automation and information technology, services such as consulting, planning, plant system technology, assembly, commissioning and training of operating personnel are a higher priority Priority was placed.

ABP

On November 1, 2005, ABB sold its Foundry Systems division to CM Acquisition. The independent company ABP Induction Systems GmbH with its headquarters in Dortmund, which is also the headquarters for activities in the USA, Sweden, Thailand, Brazil, Mexico, India and Russia, became the independent company from the ABB Foundries and Forming Works Dortmund division. As a result of this economic development - as part of the bundling of the know-how of ASEA, BBC and ABB at the former BBC location in Dortmund, in the Dortmund harbor - ABP Induction Systems GmbH is a technology and market leader in the field of "inductive melting and heating".

ABP today

On September 1, 2019, the MHI / Primetals Group took over the company.

Location

Headquarters

ABP Induction Systems Dortmund

The company's headquarters are now on the former site of the BBC, in the port of Dortmund . This location is advantageous due to its proximity to industrial companies in the Ruhr area, as well as its diverse logistical possibilities (connection to the German inland waterway network, direct connection to the motorway and rail network, several universities).

Other company locations

ABP Induction Systems has subsidiaries in the USA, Thailand, Sweden, Brazil, Mexico and India.

Products

The core activity of ABP is the production of systems for melting, holding and heating metals and metallic products. These systems consist of transformers, converters, chokes, control technology and furnace coils, as well as furnace bodies.

Melt

The systems offered by ABP for melting are powerful induction furnaces in which ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys can be melted and overheated in a short time.

Keep warm

For keeping warm, furnaces are offered whose induced power in relation to the filling volume is significantly lower than with the melting units. This makes it possible to keep metal melted in the melting unit in stock at the desired temperature in an economically and ecologically sensible way after decanting. Holding furnaces are usually designed as furnaces with flanged crucible or channel inductors.

to water

The casting furnace is basically a holding furnace which is equipped with a level control by means of gas pressure and a pouring siphon. The pouring siphon is equipped with a locking system which enables casting molds to be filled manually or automatically, depending on the degree of automation. With a sufficiently high throughput in relation to the volume it is possible to run the casting furnace unheated.

Warmer

Heaters are used to heat metallic semi-finished products for tempering or hot forming applications without turning them into a liquid state. Heaters are often filled as continuous furnaces with mechanical parts transport. Application example: forging.

Range of services

In addition to the construction and sale of systems, great emphasis is placed on service. Customer service includes a detailed concept development that is tailored to each customer. Process simulations, investment and benefit assessments are also carried out. Care is also taken to ensure that the projects are feasible for both parties and that commissioning takes place smoothly by means of order series optimization and batch planning (MeltShopManager). Furthermore, employee training courses are offered to customers to keep them up to date with the latest information and to familiarize them with new systems. The systems are offered with process control and control by means of foundry control stations. In addition, the plants will be equipped with energy management systems.

Additional equipment

Through additional products, e.g. B. slag excavators, production idle times are reduced, production processes are accelerated and optimized. The crucible ejection device accelerates the crucible change. Crucible monitoring systems, electromechanical stopper actuation for automatic casting systems, optimize production processes. In addition, hardware and software solutions for controlling and monitoring the operation of melting, holding and heating systems are offered.
