Jim Shea

Jim Shea (born June 10, 1968 in Hartford , Connecticut , USA ) is an American athlete and Olympic champion in skeleton.

Jim Shea, the winner of the Skeleton -Goldmedaille at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , began as a bobsledder , but then changed because of lower costs and higher voltage to Skeleton. After winning the 1999 World Cup , he qualified for the US Olympic Skeleton Team.

Shea is a third generation Olympic participant: his father Jim Shea Senior competed in the Nordic combined and cross-country skiing disciplines at the 1964 Winter Olympics, and his grandfather Jack Shea won two gold medals for speed skating at the 1932 Winter Olympics in his hometown of Lake Placid . Like his grandfather, Shea took the Olympic oath at the opening ceremony of the Games .
