List of world champions in skeleton
The list of world champions in skeleton shows all world champions as well as all athletes placed on the medal ranks since the competition was first held. Skeleton World Championships for men were first held in St. Moritz in 1982 . After a seven-year break, they have been held annually since 1989 if there are no Olympic Games in that year. The world championships for women have existed since 2000. Since 2007, a mixed team competition has been held together with the bobsleigh athletes. In 2020, a mixed competition only in the skeleton was held for the first time, but the team competition with the bobsleigh athletes was canceled.
The competitions are held in a single class for both men and women. The winner is whoever, adding up all four races, needed the least amount of time to cover the distance in the ice channel. The most successful nations are Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Austria and the USA, which won the majority of the medals at the world championships and mostly also other international competitions.

team
In 2007 a team competition was held for the first time at the World Championships in St. Moritz. For each gender, a two-man bobsleigh and a skeleton pilot (shown here in large) are used, each of which drives a race, whose times are then added to a total time. Since 2011, the strongest nations can bring two teams to the start.
Mix competition
This competition was held for the first time in 2020 and replaced the team competition with the bobsleigh athletes. In this competition, a male and female skeleton competed as a team.
