Christina Hengster (born February 4, 1986 in Rum , Tyrol ) is a former Austrian bobsleigh athlete .

Career

Christina Hengster started out as a brakeman with bobsleigh and made her debut in December 2004 together with Silke Zeuner as 23rd in Igls in the World Cup . This was followed by further starts in the European and World Cups before she switched to the pilot's seat herself in 2007. In the 2007/08 season she started in the European Cup , where she reached her first podium finish as third in Winterberg . She contested her first World Cup race as a pilot in November 2008, also in Winterberg, and was 20th; in Igls she achieved her best result to date as 12th. In 2009 she started at the World Championships for the first time and finished 17th with Anna Feichtner . In the winter of 2009/10 she took part in all eight races of the World Cup for the first time and after placements between 17 and 24 was a total of 20th. At the Junior World Championships 2010 she won the bronze medal with brakeman Inga Versen .

In the 2010/11 season, Hengster started mainly in the European Cup , where she reached four third places and came fourth in the overall standings. In four starts in the World Cup , she then reached two tenth and twelfth places and was sixth at the European Championship . In the winter of 2011/12, Hengster achieved their first single-digit placings in the World Cup , including their first podium result in Igls, and seventh in the overall World Cup. In January 2011 she was also Junior World Champion in Igls together with Anna Feichtner. At the 2012 World Championships in Lake Placid , she was ninth with Inga Versen. In the 2012/13 Bobsleigh World Cup , Hengster achieved top 10 places in seven of the nine races of the season and was eighth overall. As fourth in Lake Placid, she just missed another podium and was again sixth at the European Championships in Igls. In the World Cup 2013/14 Hengster could not place in the top ten is, however, took in the season finale at the Olympic Games of Sochi in part. There she took 15th place with the brakemen Viola Kleiser (1st and 2nd run) and Alexandra Tüchi (3rd + 4th run).

In the winter of 2014/15, Christina Hengster played the first half of the season again in the European Cup , where she achieved several podium places, including a victory in Königssee . She then finished in five races in the World Cup between 7 and 10 and was eleventh in the two-man bobsleigh championships in Winterberg with Sanne Dekker and sixth with the Austrian team. In the 2015/16 season, Hengster and Dekker achieved third place in the World Cup in the first race of the season in Altenberg . In January 2016, she finished third at the Overseas World Cups in Lake Placid and Whistler, as well as second place in Park City, the best result of her career to date. She also won bronze with the team at the World Cup in Igls, Germany, and came third in the overall World Cup standings. Christina Hengster resigned on November 17, 2018, after her career she would like to devote herself to her job in the police.
