Dănuț Ion Moldovan (born March 18, 1991 in Bucharest ) is an Austrian - Romanian bobsledder .

Career

2010 to 2015: pusher in Romania

Dănuț Moldovan started bobsleigh competitions in 2010 and was accepted into the Romanian national team a year later. He took part in the 2013 Bobsleigh World Championships at the Olympia Bobrun St. Moritz – Celerina as a pusher of the Romanian four-man bobsleigh with pilot Andreas Neagu . The bobsled came in 26th at the end of the competition.

He was nominated by the Comitetul Olimpic și Sportiv Român for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi as a pusher for Andreas Neagu and was allowed to compete in the four-man bobsleigh competition, where he was only used in the first two runs. In the third run he was replaced by Bogdan Otavă . The Romanian four-man bobsleigh finished 24th.

After Andreas Neagu ended his career, he was part of the push team for Dorin Grigore's four-man bobsleigh . With him he took part in the 2015 Bobsleigh World Championships on the Winterberg Hochsauerland bobsleigh run and the Romanian four-man bobsleigh finished the competition in 24th place.

Since 2015: Benjamin Maier's pusher

For the 2015/16 winter season, Moldovan switched to the Austrian association and pushed the four-man bobsleigh driven by Benjamin Maier . In 2016 he was junior runner-up world champion behind Johannes Lochner and runner-up European champion behind Maximilian Arndt in St. Moritz . At the world championship in Innsbruck that year, he won the bronze medal with the team.

In 2017 Moldovan won bronze at the 2017 European Bobsleigh Championships in Winterberg. At the world championship shortly afterwards at Königssee, the Austrians finished seventh. After the IOC had issued an exemption for the change of state, Moldovan was nominated for the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang . In the four-man bobsleigh steered by Maier, he finished seventh in the four -man bobsleigh together with Kilian Walch and Markus Sammer .
