Jane Channell (born August 23, 1988 in North Vancouver , British Columbia ) is a Canadian skeleton pilot .

Career

Jane Channell grew up in North Vancouver and already played several sports as a child, including track and field and softball , in which she also took part in national competitions while studying at Simon Fraser University . She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical geography in 2011 and then moved to Whistler to focus on the sport of skeleton, which she first encountered in 2009.

Channell made her international debut in the North American Cup in late 2012, finishing ninth in Park City . She finished all eight races of the season with single-digit placings and was able to celebrate podium finishes for the first time in the last two races in Lake Placid with third place and one win. As a result, she won the overall ranking in the North American Cup in her debut season in front of her teammates Madison Charney and Elisabeth Vathje . In 2013 she was accepted into the national sponsorship group and moved to Calgary . She started in the 2013/14 season in the Intercontinental Cup and was best placed two fourth places in Park City; in the overall standings she was fifth. She also made her World Cup debut in the last race of the season , in which she was 18th.

In the winter of 2014/15, Jane Channell was initially back in the Intercontinental Cup and was second in Winterberg . She then rose again to the World Cup squad and achieved her best results to date in seventh place in St. Moritz and Igls . In the overall ranking she finished 14th. At the 2015 Skeleton World Championship in Winterberg, she was fourth and only missed a medal by 0.06 seconds. In the second race of the 2015/16 World Cup in the same place, she achieved her first podium in the World Cup in third place. In January 2016, she was able to improve this performance as second in Park City.
