In Regina Hawrysh started with heptathlon and trained with Jessica Zelinka , among others . In 2009, Hawrysh moved to Calgary , encountered skeleton through her track and field contacts, and soon began training with Jeff Pain and Amy Gough . In April 2010 she took part in the last race of the America's Cup 2009/10 season in Lake Placid and immediately finished fifth. 2010/11 Hawrysh achieved her first podium and 2011/12 she won the first four races, whereupon she was allowed to start in the second half of the season in the European Cup 2011/12 . There, too, she impressed with three podium finishes including a win in Winterberg and came third in the Canadian championships . Hawrysh also won the overall standings in the America's Cup.

The following winter, she was able to qualify for the squad for the 2012/13 World Cup and was Canadian runner-up behind Sarah Reid . In her first World Cup season, she made it into the top eight four times and also finished eighth in the final ranking. At the 2013 World Championships in St. Moritz , she finished 12th. In the selection races for the 2013/14 season, Cassie Hawrysh won the Canadian championship title at the same time as Robynne Thompson and was called back to the squad for the World Cup . After the ranks 10 and 11 in the first two races, however, she was transferred to the team for the Intercontinental Cup . Despite good results and two wins in Park City , she could no longer qualify for the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi , as only two Canadian athletes were allowed to compete there. In the winter of 2014/15 Hawrysh took part again in the Intercontinental Cup, where she made it onto the podium twice and took third place in the overall standings.
