Tomass Dukurs (born July 2, 1981 in Riga ) is a Latvian skeleton driver .

Career

Tomass Dukurs is the older brother of the multiple world and European champion as well as overall World Cup winner Martins Dukurs and is trained by his father Dainis Dukurs, among others. He made his debut in January 2000 at a World Cup race in Lillehammer , where he was 39th. A year later he appeared in Calgary for the first time at a world championship and was 29. In December 2001 he was second behind Andy Böhme in a European Cup race in Altenberg . At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , he reached 21st place. In January 2003 he won his first European Cup race in Altenberg and finally the overall ranking of the 2002/03 European Cup. In February 2004 he was able to win a World Cup race for the first time in Sigulda on his home track . He achieved another outstanding result at the 2007 European Skeleton Championships in Königssee , where he relegated his brother Martins Dukurs to fourth place. In the World Cup , he also achieved his best result in the overall World Cup by finishing ninth. In 2007/08 he finished 11th in the overall World Cup, in 2008/09 16th and in 2009/10 he was able to climb to 4th. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , he also took 4th place.

In the 2010/11 season he was able to reach the podium again with a second place in Cesana ; in the overall classification he was eighth. At the 2011 European Championships in Winterberg he was fourth and ninth at the World Championships in Königssee . In the 2011/12 season he consistently finished in the top seven and finished third in the overall World Cup. At the European Championships in Altenberg, he won silver behind his brother Martins. In the following season he placed in the World Cup in all nine races between 2 and 5 and was second in the final classification, again behind his brother. At the European Championships in Igls he was third. He also finished second in the World Cup in the 2013/14 Olympic season and made it onto the podium six times. At the EM in Königssee he also won silver; at the 2014 Olympic Games of Sochi , he missed a medal in fourth place again just barely.

In January 2015 Tomass Dukurs won his third bronze medal at the European Championships in La Plagne . In the overall World Cup he was again second behind his brother. At the world championship he won his first world championship medal with bronze. In February 2016, he and his brother won gold for the first time at the European Championships in St. Moritz. In the 2015/16 World Cup he reached four podium places and was third in the overall standings behind his brother and Yun Sung-bin . He was sixth at the World Cup .
