Gert Elsässer

Gert Elsässer (* 1949 in Innsbruck ) is a former Austrian skeleton driver .

Gert Elsässer is one of the pioneers of modern skeleton sport . The Innsbrucker was the first European skeleton champion in Igls in 1981 and the first world skeleton champion in St. Moritz a year later . He was able to defend the European championship title in Königssee in 1982 . In 1983 he won silver again behind Alain Wicki at his last European championships in Igls . Between 1979 and 1984 Elsässer was Austrian champion six times in a row.
