Florian Grassl

Florian Grassl (born April 22, 1980 in Freilassing ) is a former German skeleton driver .

Florian Grassl is a sports soldier and starts for WSV Königssee . He has been practicing skeleton sports since 2002. On an international level, he started at a European Cup race in Winterberg , which he won straight away. At the subsequent German championships for 2003 (held in December 2002) he was runner- up behind Willi Schneider . In January 2003 he was used for the first time in the World Cup in Igls and immediately came in ninth. This was followed by seventh place in St. Moritz and qualification for the European Championships, which were also held in St. Moritz, where he came third behind Walter Stern and Gregor Stähli . At the world championships of the year he was twelfth. In the summer he was runner-up in the World Cup push behind Alexander Arktschipenko in Groningen .

The next high point in his career after winning the Bavarian championship was winning the German championship in 2004. At the world championships in Königssee , Grassl was able to achieve his best result to date and was runner-up to the Canadian Duff Gibson . The Schönauer finished fifth at the European Championships of the year in Altenberg . The following season he was sixth at the European Championships in Altenberg . In Igls he achieved his best World Cup placement to date with fourth place. At the German Championships in Altenberg in January 2005, Grassl came third. The World Championships at the end of the season in Calgary he botched as 18th. In the summer he took part again in the starting World Championships in Guadalajara and was third. After he failed to qualify for the World Cup squad again in 2010 after 2009, Grassl announced his retirement from competitive sports.
