Gamze Bulut ( gɑ̃mˈze ̌ buˈɫutʰ ; born August 3, 1992 in Eskişehir ) is a Turkish middle-distance runner who is suspended for doping until May 29, 2020 .

Career

The 166 cm tall and 48 kg heavy athlete is a member of Fenerbahçe Athletics . There she was looked after by Süleyman Altınoluk. In 2009 Bulut won the gold medal in the 3000 m obstacle course at the Balkan Junior Championships in Greece .

Later she became European champion in the 1500 m in Helsinki in 2012 , after her compatriot Aslı Çakır Alptekin was disqualified for doping in follow-up examinations in 2016. Bulut also moved from silver to gold at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, as Alptekin had to give up her medal here too because of doping.

doping

Since 2016, Bulut, who was Alptekin's training partner, was suspected of taking doping substances herself. Her biological passport showed these irregularities. Finally, at the end of March 2017, she was banned for four years by the IAAF, the world athletics association , officially stripped of her gold medal from London 2012 and her results canceled since July 20, 2011.

One of the victims is Corinna Harrer , who was seventeenth in the semi-finals in 2012 and could not start in the Olympic 1,500 meter final.
