Jekaterina Ivanovna Poistogowa ( Russian Екатерина Ивановна Поистогова , née Sawjalowa ( Завья́лова ); * March 1, 1991 in Arsamas ) is a Russian middle-distance runner .

Career

On August 11, 2012 she was originally third at the Olympic Games in London , and later she received the silver medal. At the European Indoor Championships in 2015 , she won a silver medal that was later revoked

doping

In a program broadcast by ARD in December 2014, Hajo Seppelt reported on doping practices in Russia. A commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) then investigated the allegations. In an ARD video, Poistogowa confessed to the use of Oxandrolone and EPO . During the European Indoor Championships in 2015, the WADA commission tried to question Poistogowa about the allegations, but ended the conversation without giving reasons. In November 2015, the commission presented its report recommending that Poistogowa be banned for life.

In April 2017, Poistova was banned by the International Court of Justice for two years from the start of suspension in August 2015 and her results were canceled from October 21, 2014 until August 2015. Thus, she also lost her silver medal won at the European Indoor Championships in 2015 . In August 2018, the International Olympic Committee announced that Poistogowa will subsequently receive the silver medal for her run at the 2012 Olympic Games, which originally ended in third place, after her compatriot Marija Savinova had been deprived of her Olympic victory.
