Omid Haji Noroozi (born February 18, 1986 in Shiraz ) is an Iranian wrestler . He was world champion in 2011 and 2012 Olympic champion in Greco-Roman style in featherweight .

Career

Omid Haji Noroozi did not start wrestling until the age of 16 in 2002. He is therefore a decided late starter. He is a member of the Takthi Shiraz wrestling club . His trainer is Mohamad Ali Chamiani. The 1.75 meter tall athlete is a sports student, but lives from wrestling. Due to the fact that he started wrestling very late, he has not yet achieved any outstanding results as a junior.

The first international championship in which Omid Noroozi was used by the Iranian Wrestling Association was the 2009 World Cup in Herning / Denmark . He defeated two strong wrestlers there at featherweight, namely Zhou Zhen from China and Iwo Angelow from Bulgaria , but lost in his third fight against Rewas Laschchi from Georgia . Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and came in 10th place.

In 2010 he was also at the Featherweight World Championship in Moscow . There, too, he initially had two victories, namely over Aurelian Leciu from Romania and Saur Kuramagomedow from Russia . He then lost to Jung Ji-hyun from South Korea , dropped out and finished in 9th place. In the same year he was able to celebrate his first victory in an international championship. He won the Asian Games in Guangzhou / China, this time defeating Jung Ji-hyun in the final.

In 2011 he also won the featherweight title at the world championship in Istanbul . On the way, he defeated Konstantin Balizki, Ukraine , Saur Kuramagomedow, Sheng Jiang , China, Jung Ji-hyun and Almat Kebispajew from Kazakhstan . The greatest success in his career then celebrated Omid Norouzi at the Olympic Games 2012 in London , because he was there with wins over Sheng Jiang, Ivo Angelov, Almat Kebispajew, Ryūtarō Matsumoto , Japan and revaz lashkhi Olympic champion .

After his Olympic victory, Omid Noroozi took a longer break. He only started again at the Golden Grand Prix in Baku in November 2013. He came there in the lightweight behind Rasul Chunajew and Vitaly Rahimow, both Azerbaijan, on the 3rd place.
