Kalle Anttila

Kaarlo "Kalle" Johan Jalmari Anttila (born August 30, 1887 in Muhos , † January 1, 1975 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish wrestler . He was a two-time Olympic champion .

Life

He first wrestled for the top club Helsingin Jyry , which belonged to the Finnish Workers' Sports Association (TUL). From 1917 until 1929 he started for the Helsingin Kisa-Veikot club (HKV for short). Later he was still active for Helsingin Paini-Miehet and for Oulun Sauva .

At the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp , he won the gold medal. In the next two years he also became world lightweight champion. Anttila was very good at both styles and won his Olympic medal in freestyle. In 1924 he became Olympic champion in the Greco-Roman style in front of his compatriot Aleksanteri Toivola and the Swede Erik Malmberg . After his sporting career, he was a businessman with his own company (Kalle Anttila Oy).
