politics
Municipal council
As is common in northern Finland, the Center Party in Muhos is the strongest political force. In contrast to many other municipalities in Northern Ostrobothnia, it does not have an absolute majority in the municipal council. In the 2012 local elections, despite losses, she received a good 40% of the vote and thus 15 of the 35 MPs. The two other major parties in the country, the conservative National Collection Party and the Social Democrats, play a subordinate role with four and three seats respectively on the municipal council. The right-wing populist True Finns with seven seats and the left-wing alliance with five MPs are also represented in the municipal council . The local voter community “Yhteislista Muhoksen sitoutumattomat” (YMS) immediately received a seat when it ran for the first time.
