Kärsämäki [ ˈkærsæmæki ] is a municipality with 2613 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) in Finland . It is located around 120 km southeast of the city of Oulu in the North Ostrobothnian countryside .
In addition to the parish village of Kärsämäki, the community includes the towns of Hautajoki, Miiluranta, Ojalehto-Alajoki, Porkkala, Rannankylä, Saviselkä, Sydänmaankylä and Venetpalo. Kärsämäki is an important traffic junction in Northern Finland: State roads 4 (Helsinki – Oulu) and 28 (Kokkola – Kajaani) intersect here, and the main road 58 to Keuruu begins here . The largest employers are the municipality, agriculture and forestry as well as the factory of the furniture manufacturer In Cap Furnitures .
The wooden church of Kärsämäki, built in 1842, was designed according to a drawing by Carl Ludwig Engel . A modern summer church ( Paanukirkko ) clad with clapboards was built in 2004.
