Pyhäntä [ ˈpyhæntæ ] is a municipality in central Finland. It is located around 100 km southeast of the city of Oulu in the North Ostrobothnian countryside .

The main town of the municipality is the parish village Pyhäntä on the shores of Lake Pyhännänjärvi, and it also includes the villages of Ahokylä, Lamujoki, Tavastkenkä and Viitamäki. The main branch of the economy is the wood processing industry; In addition to wooden furniture, house components and cardboard boxes are manufactured. In addition, companies from the food industry have settled here.

Around 80% of the community area is forested and partly swampy and is a habitat for rare animal species such as brown bears, beavers and reindeer.

The dominant political force in rural Pyhäntä is the Center Party . In the 2008 local elections, she received almost three quarters of the vote, one of her best results in Finland.
