Russell Vis

Russell Vis (born June 22, 1900 in Grand Rapids, Michigan , † April 1, 1990 ) was an American wrestler.

Career

He learned to wrestle in college and won several Oregon high school championships . In 1916 he came to the Olympic Club of San Francisco . He won many regional championships and the Pacific Coast Championships in 1918. In 1919 his family moved to Los Angeles and he joined the Los Angeles Athletic Club, of which he was a member for over 60 years. He now participated in the American championships of the AAU and won the lightweight, freestyle title from 1921 to 1924, without a single defeat. The high point of his career was the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris , where he became Olympic champion .

Russell Vis was a self-made man who made his way without major outside support. That is why he supported the youth who had found wrestling for a long time after his active career.
