Osvald Käpp

Osvald Käpp (born February 17, 1905 in Tallinn , † December 22, 1995 in New York City , United States ) was an Estonian wrestler .

Osvald Käpp learned to wrestle at the Kalev Tallinn sports club . At the age of 19, he started for Estonia at the Olympic Games in Paris , where he finished eighth. From then on a very successful international career began. The highlight was his Olympic victory in Amsterdam in 1928 . In 1929 Käpp emigrated to the USA , but wrestled again for Estonia at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles .

• 1927, 3rd place , EM in Budapest , gr, Le, with victories over Blazyca, Poland, Sesta, Austria, Lajos Keresztes , Hungary, North, Norway and one defeat against Eduard Sperling , Germany ;
• 1928, gold medal , OS in Amsterdam , F, Le, with victories over Clarence Berryman , USA , Carlo Tesdorf Jørgensen , Denmark, Birger Nilsen , Norway and Charles Pacôme , France;
• 1928, 9th place , OS in Amsterdam, great Le, after victories over Piero Postini , Italy , Harald Pettersson, and a defeat against Tayyar Yalaz , Turkey ;
• 1932, 6th place , OS in Los Angeles , F, Le, after defeats against Károly Kárpáti , Hungary and Charles Pacôme;
• 1932, 4th place , OS in Los Angeles, gr, We, with victories over Børge Jensen , Denmark, Ercole Gallegatti , Italy and one defeat against Ivar Johansson , Sweden.

National successes

Ovvald Käpp has won the Estonian and four US championships five times.
