Jenő Németh (* 1902 in Budapest ; † unknown) was a Hungarian wrestler . He became European champion in the Greco-Roman style featherweight in 1925 .

Career

Jenő Németh started wrestling in Budapest after the First World War . He became a member of the Munkás Testedző Egylet (MTE) Budapest sports club . He only wrestled in the Greco-Roman style. In January 1922 he appeared for the first time in the list of winners of an important international tournament when he finished 2nd in featherweight behind his compatriot Istvan Feher .

In 1923 he was the first Hungarian featherweight champion before Jozsef Polgari u. G. Skerlecz. At the very busy trade fair championship in Vienna in 1923, he came fourth in featherweight behind Istvan Feher, Franz Reitmeier , Germany and Jozsef Incze , Hungary.

In 1924 he won a well-filled international tournament in Berlin, ahead of Aage Meier from Denmark and Karl Andersson from Sweden . At the Hungarian championship of this year he finished in featherweight behind Ödön Radvány , but before Istvan Feher in 2nd place and thus qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in Paris . He started there in the featherweight division, but retired after defeats against Fritjof Svensson from Sweden and Osvald Käpp from Estonia after the 2nd round and only came in 18th place.

In May 1925, Jenö Nemeth defeated the Austrian champion Karl Mezulian twice on points in Budapest in an international match between Hungary and Austria . In the same year he was again Hungarian champion ahead of Istvan Feher and Ladislaus Molnar. He then celebrated his greatest success in his wrestling career at the European Championships in Milan in 1925 . He defeated there in featherweight René Rottenfluc from France , Gerolamo Quaglia from Italy and the two Germans Artur Zirkel and Ernst Steinig and became European champion.

Then he switched to lightweight because of weight problems . In this weight class, however, the competition in Hungary with Lajos Keresztes and Mihály Matura was very fierce during his time , so that he could not qualify there for any further international championships. In 1926 he took 3rd place at an international tournament in Budapest in the lightweight behind his compatriot Fekete and Ludwig Sesta from Austria and at another international tournament in Košice he came 2nd behind Ludwig Sesta.

In 1928 he was in a Hungarian selection that fought an international match against Turkey in Greco-Roman style in Istanbul . In the lightweight he came here to a shoulder victory over Ahmed.

In 1929 Jenő Németh went to Germany and competed for several years at AC Köln -Mülheim in 1892 . In the same year he started at the German lightweight championship and finished second behind Alfred Kornmeier from Göppingen. In 1930 he defeated the German featherweight champion from 1928 Heinrich Zehmer from Bad Kreuznach on points in a national match between the Rhineland and Middle Rhine .

In 1931 he defeated the German lightweight champion from 1930 Fritz Scharfe from AC Hörde 04 twice in the battles for the German team championship . In the same year he started again in the German championship, but had to settle for 5th place in the lightweight after a defeat against three-time European champion Eduard Sperling from ASV Heros Dortmund.

In 1932 he started again in the German championship and came in lightweight behind Eduard Sperling and in front of Fritz Weikart from AC Hörde 04 and Adolf Krehl from KSV Untertürkheim on the 2nd place.

As of 1933, Jenö Nemeth, as a Hungarian citizen, was no longer allowed to compete in Germany after the Nazis seized power. From this point on his traces are lost. It can be assumed that he returned to Budapest. The date of his death is also unknown.
