Ludwig Sesta

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ludwig Sesta (Geysa Ludwig Geza Sesztak, born May 14, 1900 in Simmering near Vienna , † February 29, 1976 in Vienna (?)) Was an Austrian wrestler . In 1925 he was Vice European Champion in the Greco-Roman style in the lightweight and in 1924 was an Olympic participant in Paris.

Career

Ludwig Sesta came from a Hungarian-Croatian family who ran an inn in Simmering, where he grew up. As a teenager he started wrestling at the Simmeringer AC (Athletes Club) "Herkules" . At that time, amateur wrestling in Austria was exclusively in the Greco-Roman style. His brother Karl Sesta, who was six years his junior, was an Austrian and German national soccer player and was also a successful wrestler.

Ludwig Sesta achieved his first successes on the wrestling mat in 1921 when he became the Viennese champion in the lightweight and 2nd Austrian champion in the middleweight division. In 1922 he stayed briefly in Croatia and was, starting for "Croatia" Zagreb, Croatian middleweight champion. In 1923 he became the Austrian lightweight champion for the first time. He won this title several times in the course of his career. In the same year in June in Budapest he represented the Austrian colors in an international match against Hungary. He suffered a point defeat against Lajos Keresztes . In November of the same year he was shoulder winner in another international match against Hungary in Vienna over Mihály Matura .

In 1924, Ludwig Sesta qualified to take part in the Olympic Games in Paris. He started there in the lightweight. In his first fight he lost to Mihály Matura from Hungary, then he won over Engelbert Mollin from Belgium and P. Parisel, France, but retired after another defeat against Arne Gaupseth from Norway and finished in 9th place. In July 1924 Ludwig Sesta fought twice in a comparison match in Vienna against the German champions Sürth from Cologne.

In 1925, European championships were held in Milan. Ludwig Sesta was there again in the lightweight race. He defeated G. Metayer, France and Antonio Selmi in Milan, then lost to the 1924 Olympic runner-up Lajos Keresztes from Hungary and defeated the Finnish 1924 Olympic champion Oskari Friman in his last fight . He became vice European champion. In October 1925, Ludwig Sesta defeated Mihály Matura twice on points in Vienna in an international match against Hungary.

For economic reasons, Austria did not send wrestlers to the 1926 European Championship in Riga. Ludwig Sesta was back at the European Championship in Budapest in 1927. But he had a lot of bad luck there, because in his fights he first met Lajos Keresztes and then Osvald Käpp from Estonia. He lost against both, with which he was eliminated and only finished 10th. At the Austrian championship in 1927 he avoided the light heavyweight division and also won the title in this weight class.

He was not nominated for the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam and he was also not at the start at the European Championships in 1929 and 1930. He was back in 1931 at the European Championships in Prague. He wrestled there in the welterweight division and defeated Walter Massop from the Netherlands in his first fight. He then lost to Sweden's Gunnar Glans , but defeated Ercole Gallegatti from Italy in his third fight. But he was eliminated anyway because he had scored 5 points. He finally came in 4th place.

After that, Ludwig Sesta did not take part in any international championships.

He concentrated on his job as a sound engineer at Austrian Broadcasting.

In 1953 and 1954 he appeared quite surprisingly as a professional wrestler (catcher). He fought in this profession, in which he used a pseudonym, 55 fights without resounding success.
