The Jalgpalliklubi Tallinna Kalev is an Estonian football club from the capital Tallinn , which until summer 2013 professional status had and currently has amateur status. The club is named after Kalev , a hero of the national epic Kalevipoeg . The venue is the Kalevi Keskstaadion , which has a capacity of 11,500 spectators.

history

The association was founded in 1911. In the years 1923 and 1930 the Estonian championship could be won. Between 1947 and 1963 one played in the football system of the Soviet Union . In the 1960 and 1961 seasons, the club was the first and only Estonian team to play in the top division of the Soviet Union. At the end of the 1963 season, the club was dissolved. Finally, it was re-established in 2002. As third of the Esiliiga they reached the relegation against Tulevik Viljandi , the penultimate of the Meistriliiga in 2006 . Kalev prevailed and rose. In 2009 he was relegated to the Esiliiga. After two years of abstinence, Kalev will return to the Meistriliiga in the 2012 season.
