Aleksanteri Toivola

Aleksanteri "Santtu" Toivola (born March 4, 1893 in Vyborg , † August 27, 1987 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish wrestler .

Aleksanteri Toivola joined the Viipurin Voimailijat wrestling club in 1916 , for which wrestlers such as August Pekkanen and Oskar Friman competed . In the early 1920s he rose to world class in Greco-Roman style. At the World Wrestling Championships in Helsinki in 1921 , the Finnish wrestlers won all six competitions. Toivola took second place in featherweight (class up to 62 kg) behind his compatriot Kalle Anttila . Toivola also won silver behind Antilla at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, when the Finns won three of six Greco-Roman style competitions. Four years later at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam Toivola finished sixth after two wins and two losses.

His son Lassi Toivola was a referee in five Olympic Games between 1972 and 1992 in the wrestling competitions.
