In Russia, he was initially overshadowed by world champion Yevgeny Makarenko . In 2004 and 2005 he took third place in the light heavyweight division at the Russian championship. In 2005 he lost it in the semifinals against Michail Gala on points (27:39). In the same year he won two strong international tournaments, namely the “Independence Cup” in Santiago , Dominican Republic and the “Multi-Nationas Cup” in Ballybunion / Ireland.

At the Russian championship in 2006 he reached the final. But he was disqualified there in the final fight against Yevgeny Makarenko in the fourth round. Since Yevgeny Makarenko then failed due to injury, he got the chance to start at the European Senior Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria . He used his chance there and won with a points win over Terwel Pulew , Bulgaria (38:22), demolition wins over Artak Malumjan from Armenia and Kenneth Egan from Ireland and a point win over Ismajil Sillach, who was his final opponent at the Junior World Championships in 2001 , European light heavyweight champion.
