Delinat AG is a Swiss mail order company specializing in the distribution of European wines from controlled organic cultivation .

development

In 1980, Karl Schefer founded the first company in Switzerland to specialize solely in the trade in organic wine under the name Delica-Natura .

Karl Schefer's first experiences with organic wine during a stay abroad in France were decisive for the establishment. Right from the start, he relied on direct delivery to end customers through mail order. Today's Delinat AG emerged from Delica-Natura in 1983.

In 1991 the company expanded to include the subsidiary Delinat GmbH , based in Weil am Rhein (D), which is geared towards the German market .

Delinat is represented with its own wine depots and shops in St. Gallen, Bern, Olten, Basel, Winterthur and Zurich. In 2018, the first Delinat wine bar was opened in Spitalgasse in Bern . In 2019, the first wine shop in Germany opened in the Stadthöfe in Hamburg.

Delinat organic guarantee

Quality assurance / standards

All wines in the Delinat range must at least comply with EU or Swiss organic guidelines. To ensure that these minimum standards are met, every company and every wine must undergo an annual inspection by an accredited inspection body. There is also the option of being certified according to the Delinat guidelines. These are stricter than the state regulations in essential points (use of sprays, fertilizers, biodiversity, permitted oenological practices, etc.).

As early as 1983 Delinat, in collaboration with organic wine experts, wrote the first version of its own guidelines for organic viticulture. These were among the first guidelines for ecological viticulture in German-speaking countries. The guidelines are revised and updated annually. Wines that meet the requirements of the Delinat guidelines are marked with their own label, the Delinat organic guarantee (Roman snail). In addition to the state controls, all wines are regularly checked by an independent laboratory. Since the 2017 vintage, all Delinat-certified wines have been produced without animal processing aids.

Research organic viticulture

Delinat has been promoting research in organic viticulture since the very beginning. On the Delinat winery Château Duvivier in southern France and on other partner wineries in the most important wine countries in Europe, test projects are repeatedly implemented. The focus is on the reduction and substitution of copper and sulfur solutions against fungal diseases, attempts at greening, increasing biodiversity and cultivation attempts with fungus-resistant grape varieties (Piwi). Delinat received the first approval in France for the Piwi cultivation trials. In addition, studies to compare bio-organic and bio-dynamic viticulture have been ongoing for some time.

In 2014, Karl Schefer was awarded the Binding Prize for nature and environmental protection by the Binding Foundation, Schaan (LI) for his commitment to nature and environmental protection . The consistent implementation of the Delinat guidelines for the protection of biodiversity in a holistic way, which is further developed with the help of our own research institute, was honored. The vineyards are viewed as a complex ecosystem with trees and hedges and secondary cultures. Likewise, sustainable action, which goes far beyond the normal “organic” standard.
