Amateur career

In 2004 Dorticos took part in the middleweight division at the Junior World Championships . There he beat Sergejs Sostaks from Latvia prematurely in his first fight and lost his second fight against the Russian Dimitri Tschudinow , the brother of Fyodor Tschudinow .

From 2005, Dorticos only competed in the light heavyweight division and was second in that year at the Cuban championships of the elite. In the same year he prevailed in the World Cup tournament against Elnur Kadyrov from Azerbaijan and Ovidiu Chereches from Romania , but lost his next battle against the Kazakhs Yerdos Dzhanabergenov .

In 2006 he was again runner-up in the Cuban championships and again took part in the World Cup tournament, which this time took place in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku . There he again defeated Elnur Kadyrov prematurely, as he did last year, Christopher Downs with 39:19 on points and Javid Taghiev prematurely. In the final, however, he had to admit defeat to the strong Russian Artur Beterbijew , who became world champion in Milan in 2009 , by breaking off in round 2.

In 2007 Dorticos won the silver medal at the Cuban championships for the third time and a bronze medal in 2008.

Dorticos completed a total of 257 fights as an amateur.

Professional career

The standard boom made its debut on August 14, 2009 with a technical knockout victory in the 4th round against Hilario Guzman. Dorticos won his first 17 fights all by Ko. Against Livin Castillo , he won the vacant WBC Latin title in 2011 .

In 2013 he beat the American Keith Barr (10-3-0) with a classic knockout in round 2. The following year he defeated Hamilton Ventura (13-0-1) and Eric Fields (24-2-0) each with a knockout and had to make ends meet for the first time with Edison Miranda (35-9-0). On July 17, 2015, he triumphed over Balen Brown by TKo and thereby won the now-lost WBC Latino belt again.

WBA interim world championship title

In Paris on May 20, 2016, the strong Cuban faced his strongest opponent to date, the Congolese Youri Kayembre Kalenga . This fight was about the interim world championship of the WBA association. Kalenga, who is also considered to be powerful, went down in round 2 after a right uppercut. In the 10th round, Dorticos knocked Kalenga and thus achieved the WBA interim world title.

Winning the regular WBA world title

A fight against the regular Kazakh WBA world champion Beibut Shumenov was planned. However, since Shumenov sustained an eye injury in training, he could not take part in this fight, which is why the WBA stripped him of the title. Dorticos was then awarded full regular World Champion status by the WBA on June 20, 2017.

Participation in the WBSS tournament

Dorticos took part in the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS for short), where the other three world champions ( Oleksandr Ussyk , Mairis Briedis and Murat Gassijew ) also took part. In this tournament, which consists of a quarter-final, a semi-final and a final, Dorticos met on September 23, 2017 in the Alamodome in San Antonio , USA , on the very robust and powerful Russian Dmitri Kudryashov and defeated him in the 2nd round hard knocked out With this victory, Dorticos also defended his world title.
