George Hunter (born July 22, 1927 in Brakpan , South Africa , † December 14, 2004 in Boksburg ) was a South African boxer .
amateur
In 1948 Hunter conquered in London with points wins over Ray Edwards , Chuck Spieser , Harri Siljander , Mauro Cia and Don Scott the gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the Olympic Games and was awarded the Val Barker Cup .
professional
He made his debut with the professionals and won the vacant South African - Transvaal (White) title in his sixth fight in 1949 . In the same year he became South African champion with a classic knockout victory in round 10 against Fred Vorster. His last fight took place on April 10, 1954, which he lost by knockout in round 2 against Dries Niemann.
