Stanislav Filko, 2007

Stanislav "Stano" Filko (born June 15, 1937 in Veľká Hradná , Okres Trenčín , Czechoslovakia ; † October 23, 2015 in Bratislava ) was one of the most important exponents of Slovak conceptual art .

life and work

Stanislav Filko, also called Stano Filko, studied painting from 1956 to 1959 at the Vysoká škola výtvarných umení v Bratislave (Academy of Fine Arts) with Dezider Milly and Peter Matejka . In 1981 Filko emigrated and lived and worked in Germany, Canada and the United States. He returned to Bratislava in 1990 .

In the mid-1960s, Filko began designing environments , installations , pneumatic sculptures, and utopian architecture. Fluxus , happenings and actions in public space are also part of his oeuvre. In 1965 he declared with Zita Kostrova and Alex Mlynarčík in the manifest Happsoc (Happening and Society) of 2 to 8 May 1965 living in Bratislava work of art.
