Veľká Hradná (Hungarian Nagyradna - until 1907 Nagygradna ) is a municipality in the north- west of Slovakia with 749 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Trenčín District , part of the kraj Trenčiansky .
geography
The municipality is located in the northernmost part of the Nitrianska pahorkatina and thus also the Slovakian Danube lowlands , not far from the foot of the Považský Inovec mountains . Veľká Hradná is located on the upper reaches of the Hradniansky brook . The center of the village is at an altitude of 270 m nm and is 14 kilometers from Bánovce nad Bebravou and 22 kilometers from Trenčín .
Neighboring communities are Svinná in the north, Malá Hradná in the east and south, Dubodiel in the south-west and Trenčianske Jastrabie in the west and north-west.
history
In today's municipal area there is a castle site that has not yet been investigated.
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1329 as locus castri Garadna and was then part of the territory of Trenčín Castle . There was once a castle in the Kostolnica district . In 1598 the village had a mill and 26 houses. In 1828 there were 57 houses and 428 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.
The municipality in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Veľká Hradná had 667 inhabitants, including 645 Slovaks , 5 Czechs and one Bulgarian and one Moravian . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 14 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
614 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church and 2 residents to the Evangelical Church AB; one resident professed a different denomination. 25 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 25 residents was not determined.
