Omšenie (until 1927 Slovak "Omšená" or "Omšené" - older even "Mšenné"; Hungarian Nagysziklás - until 1907 misen ) is a municipality in the northwest of Slovakia with 1,934 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Trenčín District , a Part of the Trenčiansky kraj .
geography
The village is located in the southwestern part of the Strážovské vrchy Mountains in the valley of the Teplička brook . There is a reservoir between Omšenie and Trenčianske Teplice. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 333 m nm and is five kilometers from Trenčianske Teplice and 18 kilometers from Trenčín .
history
Omšenie was first mentioned in writing in 1332 as Missen . At first, the surrounding land belonged directly to the Hungarian king, before Louis the Great gave it to the Baraczkay family at the beginning of the 14th century . Parts of the municipality belonged to Podmaniczky and others according to lien . The main occupation of the inhabitants was sheep breeding, which can still be seen today in the municipal coat of arms.
