Petrova Lehota (to 1927 "Petrová Lehota"; Hungarian Péterszabadja - until 1907 Petrilehota ) is a municipality in the north- west of Slovakia with 186 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Trenčín District , part of the kraj Trenčiansky .
geography
The village is located in the Strážovské vrchy Mountains in the small valley of the Petrovka brook . The center of the village is at an altitude of 387 m nm and is 20 kilometers from Bánovce nad Bebravou and 23 kilometers from Trenčín .
Neighboring municipalities are Trenčianske Teplice in the north, Omšenie in the northeast, Motešice in the east and south and Trenčín in the west and northwest.
history
The place was founded towards the beginning of the 14th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1346 as Lyhota Petri . Landowners came from the Motešický dynasty , and the Rozsony family was also involved through seizure . In 1828 there were 24 houses and 269 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.
Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Petrova Lehota had 170 inhabitants, of which 169 were Slovaks and one Magyar .
151 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church. Ten residents were non-denominational and the denomination was not determined for nine residents.
