Chocholná-Velčice is a municipality in the north- west of Slovakia with a population of 1,689 (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Trenčín District , part of the kraj Trenčiansky .
geography
The community is located in the middle Waag Valley on the right bank of the Waag in the shadow of the Northwestern White Carpathians . The almost 28 km² large municipal area forms a strip from the Waagtal (height 198 m nm ) out over the valley Chocholianska dolina to the state border with the Czech Republic on the main ridge of the White Carpathians with heights of about 800 m nm The brook Chocholianka flows through the entire municipality . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 220 m nm and is 10 kilometers by road from Trenčín .
Chocholná-Velčice is divided into parts of the municipality Chocholná, Kykula and Velčice.
history
The present municipality was established in 1960 through the merger of the places Chocholná and Velčice . Chocholná, in turn, was created in 1944 after the towns of Malá Chocholná and Veľká Chocholná merged .
The places were mentioned in writing for the first time in 1345 (as Welchycz for Velčice), 1396 (as Kys Hoholna for Malá Chocholná) and 1481 (as Naghoholna for Veľká Chocholná).

There is an important road junction near Chocholná. There the 1st order roads 61 (Bratislava – Bytča) and 50 (E 572, border CZ – Zvolen – Košice – border UA) intersect . The former road was replaced by the D1 motorway (E 75, Bratislava – Žilina) in the late 1990s . The double- track Bratislava – Žilina railway runs past the village , with connections in the neighboring town of Kostolná-Záriečie (local transport) or in Trenčín (long-distance transport).
