Bobot (Hungarian Bobot ) is a municipality in the north- west of Slovakia with 772 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and is part of the Trenčín District , part of the kraj Trenčiansky .

geography

The municipality is located in the northernmost part of the Nitrianska pahorkatina and thus also the Slovakian Danube lowlands , by the Machnáč brook . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 240  m nm and is 12 kilometers from Bánovce nad Bebravou and 25 kilometers from Trenčín .

Administratively, the municipality is divided into parts of the municipality Bobot and Bobotská Lehota (incorporated in 1971).

Neighboring municipalities are Motešice and Omšenie in the north, Krásna Ves in the north-east, Timoradza in the east, Podlužany in the south-east, Horňany in the south, Svinná in the south-west and again Motešice in the west.

history

Church in Bobot

Bobot was first mentioned in writing in 1332 as Bodac . Until the 16th century Bobot was in the dominion of Trenčín Castle , after which it was part of the Banowitz estate. In addition, the Motešický family owned goods in the village. In 1598 there was a mill and 29 houses in the village; in 1720 there were five taxpayers. In 1828 there were 43 houses and 348 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture. In addition, there was a paper mill from the 18th to the 20th century, and a limestone quarry and mill in operation in the 19th century.

The municipality in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 755 people lived in Bobot, including 690 Slovaks and two Germans , two Moravians and two Czechs . 59 inhabitants did not provide any information on ethnicity .

632 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, five residents to the Evangelical Church AB, four residents to the Old Catholic Church and one resident each to the Brethren Church, the Evangelical Methodist Church and the Greek Catholic Church. 32 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 79 residents was not determined.
